WIB Dinner-Ravy
The WIB Forum for women in Ravy was held at the Ravy hotel on a Friday night. 7 women attended and myself. 14 women originally said they would attend however either forgot or got held up. One of the women was from Busselton and originally from Ravensthorpe.It was good to have her input and listen to her experiences in Ravensthorpe and Busselton. All of the women that attended found it very beneficial and an opportunity to be proactive in the business arena. Feedback was as follows;
Information and to meet other women. Networking and communication with likeminded people. To get to know more Ravy women, networking, find out what businesses exist. To hear what the RRCC has to offer and meet other women in the workforce. (YES) Interest in what others associated with working, volunteering and directly what is happening within the community.
Accounting, tax advice, promotion of business More networking, exposure to local community and promotion of workshops (continued support) Book-keeping, ATO assistance, child care.
Yes I think the Shire is doing a good job. Social knowledge, transparency Keep business local Not always in touch with what is going on in the area, would like increased transparency in Shire activities.
Yes Yes, great idea, good for brainstorming ideas Yes, great group, can get plenty done. Yes and yes. Yes although I was late. Discovered a common rodeo interest! Yes I think every two months and Ravy other month. ·Comments: Well done Shaz! I thoroughly enjoyed this group and feel that they will help to create a bond between Hopetoun and Ravy through these groups with a common theme and agenda. I asked them about Tourism toward the end of the night and this sparked much interest and enthusiasm to recreate Ravy and build tourism in the area. Some of the ideas mentioned and discussed with loads of enthusiasm were the following; Ravy Rocking Rodeo: To be held on Frans property. It will be a horse race trail, rodeo and shindig at night. Camping will be available on the property. Fran will get the necessary licence from the shire and she will charge an entry fee. I advised that they may need to think of setting up a small working committee however I feel that the WIB may be just that. Local Market Day: Everyone in the region to bring local produce, arts and crafts. Wool Shed Cafe: A place big enough to sell local goods, have a cafe and chess tables and pieces for adults and kids to hang out. Garden Party: to be held in an old historic building, everyone dress up wearing period costume. Highly successful in Karratha apparently. Licorice factory: My idea, still pushing this one. Using the spelt flour grown near the region or preferably in the region to make licorice. Using the model of the one created in Junee near Wagga in NSW. The women asked that we include the Hopetoun women in these forums so we will endeavour to have the next one in Hopetoun and then take turns. I personally feel that the women of Ravensthorpe work well together as they have always had to support themselves, come together and fundraise. This will help the women in Business in Hopetoun as they have a newer more transient community that still need to come together and work as a group. I feel we will have a bigger attendance next time and these women will definitely make a positive impact in the Tourism area. I will endeavour to arrange workshops for the ATO for taxation queries and speak to Chris Walker or Ian Gardner about the accounting and budgeting workshops. I will also forward this report to Rowena and Paul at the Shire for their information particularly on the Shire comments. I will also continue the WIB forums for networking and action plans with the help and support of Melanie Kendall who mostly organised this one for me. Big thanks to Melanie Kendall for all of her efforts and support and help to make such an important breakthrough for the communication between the RRCC and the Women in Business of Ravensthorpe. |
